Scope

1.1 This document includes safety requirements for the design and installation of equipment that is intended for storage, handling, and transportation of flat glass inside the factory. It does not cover all phases of life of the product. Transport to the customer, assembly, dismantling, disabling, or scrapping are excluded.
This document also applies to equipment within the scope of Machinery Directive (see 1.2) as well as to equipment that is not covered by Machinery Directive (see 1.3). Annex C (see Figure C.1) gives an overview of the differentiation.
NOTE Additional requirements covering specific hazards that result from the use outside the factory are dealt with in FprEN 13035 2:2022.
1.2 This document specifies safety requirements for the following machinery:
- machinery for storage provided with elements that are propelled by a drive system other than directly applied human or animal power (engine power) in order to store or retrieve glass in or from storage shelves or frames (see 3.2.2);
- machinery for picking up single glass plates, firmly-attached glass plates or glass packs for transportation between different locations where the retention force or lifting force is generated by engine power (see 3.3.2, 3.3.3);
- machinery for transportation by special vehicles that are propelled by engine power.
1.3 This document specifies additional requirements in Annex A for the following equipment that is not covered by Machinery Directive:
- stationary, movable and mobile storage equipment (see 3.2.1, 3.2.3, 3.2.4);
- storage equipment with mobile frame (provided with manually propelled shelves or frames) (see 3.2.2);
- equipment for transportation by trailer and trolley (see 3.4.2 and 3.4.3).
1.4 This document only deals with equipment, which is in direct contact with the glass, with the exception of wooden packaging. Tractors, cranes, hoists and forklift trucks as well as elements of self-propelled vehicles, which are not in contact with the glass (see 3.4.1), are out of the scope. This document does not apply to equipment for picking up single plates, such as manual vacuum lifting devices, lifting straps or other manual devices (see 3.3.1). This document does not cover automatic loading or unloading of storage and transportation equipment. This is covered in EN 13035 5:2006+A1:2009.
1.5 This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events, which are relevant to equipment for storage, handling and transportation of flat glass, when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer covered by the Machinery Directive (see Annex B). This document specifies the appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards during commissioning, operation and maintenance. The significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events during transport to the customer, assembly, dismantling, disabling, or scrapping are excluded.
1.6 This document deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events, which are relevant to equipment for storage, handling and transportation of flat glass outside the Machinery Directive, when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Annex A).
1.7 This document provides the requirement on machinery and devices that are in direct or indirect contact with glass.
1.8 This document is not applicable to equipment for storage, handling and transportation of flat glass inside the factory, which is manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.
