Scope

This standard applies to beverage containers with a capacity of up to 50 litres, consisting of two cylindrical deep drawn elements (shells) joined by welding. It covers containers rated for an operating pressure up to 3 bar. The containers are used as returnable packaging.
Beverage containers in accordance with this standard (casks and kegs; "containers", for short) are preferably used for non-alcoholic beverages. This standard specifies the quality requirements with respect to material, constancy of volume and dimensional stability.
