Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Part 1 : General Requirements, is applicable except as follows: 1.1 Replacement: This standard applies to jet fans commonly known as air circulators and air blast cooling fans oscillating and non-oscillating and their associated regulators intended for use on single phase a.c. circuits and d.c. circuits not exceeding 250 V ; air blast cooling fans may be intended for use on three phase a.c. system up to 440 V. Wherever applicable, the term "fan" used in this standard includes its associated regulators, if any. Provisions of this standard may also be adapted to the extent applicable to fans not intended for normal household use, which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public. Additional requirements may also be necessary for fans intended to be used in: i) vehicles, and ii) tropical countries. Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements may be specified by the national health authorities and the national authorities responsible for protection of labour. This standard does not apply to safety requirements for jet fans intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of corrosive or explosive atmosphere. 1.2 Addition: Jet fans and does not cover performance. This standard is concerned with safety requirements of jet fans and requirements and corresponding tests which are covered in IEC Publication 535: Regulators.
